Want to learn the best Arena of Valor strategies ? Garena's multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Arena of Valor ( Honor of Kings in China) is very popular in Southeast Asia, and many people have been playing it on their mobile phones and consoles.
For new players, we've put together this guide to learn the basics of a classic 5v5 match in Arena of Valor. From heroes and their abilities to the in-game economy, we've got you covered.
Arena Of Valor Objectives And Strategies
The main objective of Arena of Valor's classic 5v5 mode is to destroy each other's base. The team that does this first wins. On average, a match lasts 12 to 18 minutes.
Teams and roles
A team consists of five players with different roles.

- tank- The hero who absorbs all the damage; usually has the highest health on the team.
- Guerrero - These melee heroes have high attack stats and a good amount of HP, they are usually played in the Dark Slayer lane (top)
- Assassin- They like to roam the map, gaining experience by killing jungle monsters and performing ganks to help their lanes advance.
- Mage: The mid lane is their playground. Mages have magical abilities that deal burst damage against enemies.
- Tirador: On the opposite side of the map, Marksman heroes are assigned to the Abyssal Dragon lane in bot. Their basic attacks scale elements, so they are usually the ones racking up all the kills throughout a match.
- Support- These heroes support, heal, and provide crowd control for the team. They play a crucial role in the early game, acting as babysitters for the Marksman heroes in the Nether Dragon lane.
Control “S” in Arena Of Valor strategies
The game controls are simple and straightforward. On the bottom left side is the joystick, which is used to move the heroes in any direction you choose.
- The bottom right side is the image of a closed fist, your 'normal attack' button,
Above the normal attack button are your hero's abilities. The ability directly above the attack button is the hero's ultimate ability. As the player gains experience and levels up, an upgrade button (+) will appear just above the abilities, which can be pressed to upgrade them.
It is also possible to send signals or pings in AoV. Simply tap on the area of the map to send one.
Map and brush inside Arena of Valor strategies
The classic map consists of three lanes, with brushes, jungle and towers in the middle.
Hiding in the brush grants players a vision-sharing effect, meaning teammates could share your vision of an enemy hero. Each side has a total of nine defense towers, three each in the top, mid, and bottom lane. Tier 1 towers are the furthest away from the base, while Tier 3 towers are the ones located inside the base.
At the team's base is the core (sometimes called the nexus). The first team to destroy the core wins the game.
Monsters of the jungle
There are five main jungle monsters in AoV.
- Killing the Abyssal Dragon will give you gold and experience to the entire team. Appears two minutes after the match starts and refreshes once every two minutes after being killed.
- The Abyssal Dragon evolves into the Raging Abyssal Dragon after ten minutes. Defeating his enraged state grants different benefits according to the hero's main roles.
- Defeat the Dark Slayer will give players increased attack damage and ability power, faster mana and health regeneration, and a movement speed bonus.
Additionally, killing the Dark Slayer will allow players to summon the Drake, which can be used to push and destroy towers. Located in the top lane, Dark Slayer spawns every five minutes starting at the eight-minute mark.
For monsters that grant buffs, taking down Spirit Sentinel grants the player 50 HP regeneration per second and 20 bonus movement speed for one minute.
Recommended for Mage heroes, defeating the Sage Golem will grant players 20% cooldown speed and 2% mana regeneration per second for a limited time.
For heroes who want to perform ganks early in the game, it is a good idea to first secure Might Buffs, which come from killing Might Golems.
Upgrades can reduce the enemy's movement speed each time a normal attack hits, and deal additional burning damage to the enemy.
Arena Of Valor Strategies To Earn Gold
There are four ways to earn gold in AoV :
- killing enemy subjects,
- killing jungle monsters,
- destroying towers
- and killing enemy heroes.
Melee, Ranged, and Siege are the three types of minions in the game. Melee minions are the most aquarian, while ranged minions have less HP and deal more damage. Siege minions are minions that ride in a vehicle.
They are the strongest and have a large amount of health and damage. Minions that land the last hit (the killing blow) grant players more gold. Jungle monsters drop varying amounts of gold, as their reward increases with playtime.
Golems drop a maximum of 140 gold , while smaller monsters like spiders and goblins drop a maximum of 90 gold when killed. The Nether Dragon drops 120 gold when killed before or after the ten-minute mark.
Destroying towers also rewards players with gold. Level 1 towers give 60 gold, Level 2 towers give 80 gold, and Level 3 towers give 100 gold.
Elements within Arena Of Valor strategies
The gold you earn can be spent on various items to boost your hero's stats. There are over a hundred items to choose from, divided into categories like attack, magic, defense, movement, jungle, and support.
Players start with 300 gold and can purchase starting items such as Short Sword for +20 Physical Attack, Spell Tome for +40 Magic Power, Ring of Vitality for +300 Max HP, Boots for increased movement speed, and even Wind and Water Stones for gold and mana regeneration.
In the mid to late game, you'll want stronger items that are also more expensive, such as the Holy of Holies magic power item for mages or Fenrir's Tooth for increased physical attack.
Most of the game's items are passive, meaning that if you equip them, they automatically give you the additional stats, but some, like the Bow of Slaughter lifesteal item and the Arctic Orb damage immunity item , must be activated to use their effects.
A player can equip a total of six items. A Quick Buy option will appear in the top right area of the player screen for recommended or pre-ordered items.
Only the components of pre-ordered items will be shown in the Quick Buy option. For example, if you pre-order War Boots, Boots of Speed and Dagger will appear in Quick Buy.
Arena Of Valor Skills And Strategies
Each hero has one passive skill and three active skills, including the ultimate.
Passive abilities grant heroes additional stats. For example, Arthur's Paragon gives you 88 armor . There are also passive abilities that require certain conditions to be met, such as Lindis' Tread Softly, which temporarily increases your movement speed and strengthens your normal attack whenever you pass through brush.
Meanwhile, active skills can be cast depending on the situation and have an average cooldown of 10 seconds. Some skills have longer cooldowns, especially those that do not require the use of mana. Skill effects range from buffs, crowd control, healing, movement to damage and damage reduction.
The third ability is the strongest in a hero's arsenal and is called their ultimate ability. Ultimate abilities have longer cooldowns and can change the outcome of team fights when used in the right situation at the right time.
AoV players start the game with one active skill. As players gain experience and level up, they gain a skill point that can be used to strengthen other skills.
Talents within Arena Of Valor strategies
Talents are skills within Arena Of Valor strategies that sustain heroes during battles. Talent cooldowns range from as little as 30 seconds to as long as 120 seconds.
- Sprint: Players gain 70% movement speed that decays over time. Use it to escape dangerous situations or to chase down enemies.
- Run: Deals damage equal to 16% of the enemy hero's lost HP as true damage. Execute is ideal for delivering the finishing blow.
- Punish: This talent will greatly help Assassins as it deals 800 true damage to minions and monsters and stuns them.
- Roar: Attack speed will be increased by 60% and attack damage by 10% for five seconds.
- Healing: You and nearby teammates recover 15% HP and 15% movement speed for a duration.
- Interruption: Structures will be disabled for five seconds. Disrupt is very useful during team fights under the tower.
- Daze: Enemies affected by Stun will be stunned for 0,5 seconds and their damage dealt will be reduced by 40% for two seconds. This talent can be used at the start of an engagement.
- Purify: In addition to removing all debuffs and control effects, Purify also grants users a brief immunity to these effects.
- Flicker: Teleports your hero a short distance.
Talents are unlocked as players level up their AoV accounts. The final talent, Flicker, is unlocked at level 17.
Runes within Arena Of Valor strategies
These magical stones called Runes enhance heroes' abilities from various aspects. Depending on the players' style and the equipped hero, Runes can be combined and customized. There are at least four types of Runes in AoV.
Closing
This magical line of runes is suitable for ranged heroes such as archers and mages.
- Holy Summoner: Sends out a Fairy Familiar to deal additional damage. The Fairy automatically attacks the enemy after several consecutive normal hits.
- Holy Thunder: The first normal attack or ability that lands on an enemy causes a bolt of lightning to fire, dealing damage.
- Sacred Protection: Players will temporarily gain movement speed, shield, and magic lifesteal when they take damage equal to 30% of their maximum HP.
Lokheim
Take this rune if you play melee, warrior or assassin.
- Desperate duel: Movement speed is gained by hitting enemies. Desperate Duel stacks up to ten times, where the hero heals and gains Armor Piercing and Magic Piercing at maximum stack.
- Curse of death: Grants opponents a curse buff that deals magic damage to all targets within range.
- Devil's Awakening: Reduces the cooldowns of other abilities when using the ultimate. This rune also grants cooldown reduction and increases damage dealt.
Avatar
Players can try to equip the Afata rune line to support and tank heroes with crowd control abilities.
- Nature's Rage: Any immobilizing ability inflicted on an enemy will also produce a burning effect.
- Explosive shield: Gains a stack each time damage is taken. At 20 stacks, an explosion will trigger, stunning enemies. Players also receive an increase in healing effect.
- Forest Wanderer: Players regain health and mana shortly after leaving combat. The next normal attack also slows the enemy's movement speed and reduces the enemy's damage.
Human
Suitable for almost all types of heroes in AoV.
- Endless Cycles: Instantly resurrects your hero in-game. Resurrected heroes will respawn back at base. Endless Cycle can only be used three times in a match.
- Visceral Enhancer: Useful for gaining extra gold and experience during the early game. Appears at level 2 to level 12.
Runes are unlocked at player level 5.
Arcana
Later in the game, the concept of Arcanas will be introduced to level 7 players and added to the Armory alongside items, talents, and runes.
Arcana are attributes that enhance your hero's base stats. There are three types of Arcana:
- Red: Increases the hero's attack.
- Purple: Improves HP recovery
- Green: focuses on defense
Arcane attribute levels range from I to III, with III being the highest. The higher the level of the Arcana, the greater its bonus effects for heroes.
Having Arcana bonuses makes a huge difference during the first few minutes of the game. Arcana can be purchased in the store or obtained through achievements.
