To update Edge:

• In the top right corner, > click on the three points or in the button Options
• After this, you must click on Help & Feedback > and About Microsoft Edge.
• If an update is available, it starts downloading the update automatically.
• When the update process is complete> you should make sure to restart your browser.
• After updating both browsers, check if you are getting an Aw snap error message appearing while browsing or not.

2.- Run a stable version of the browsers

If you're running an unstable version of the Chrome or Edge browser, please downgrade to the stable version. Chrome users should check if they're using the Canary build and consider downgrading to the latest stable version.

You can follow the instructions given for Chrome:

• Press the keys Windows + R and in the Run box you should now type appwiz.cpl and press OK
• Now, inside the Control Panel, you have to select Chrome Canary and then click on Uninstall the Chrome browser.

• Wait until the unstable version of Chrome is uninstalled
• The next step is to install the latest version of Chrome and check if the Aw, Snap managed to solve the error in Chrome.

Also, if you are using Microsoft Edge, uninstall Edge from the Control Panel and install the latest stable version from the official website.

3.- Disable installed extensions

For Chrome browser

For Edge browser

• Once the extensions are disabled, check if the error is resolved, but if not, it is clear that the error is not related to the extensions, so you can enable them.

If this method does not work for you, you can try the following solution.

4.- Modify the .exe file name

You can try renaming the browsers .exe file as this worked for many users in resolving the error.

For Chrome browser users:

• If you are running a Chrome browser, follow the steps given to do so:
• Press the Windows key + E to open the File Browser
• Now in the location bar paste the given command c:\Program Files (x86)\ Google \ Chrome \ Application
• Then right click on chrome.exe and select Rename and change it to Chrom.exe or any other you want.

• Finally, restart the browser to verify that the error is resolved.

For Edge browser users

Follow these steps to rename the .exe file in Edge

• First, you're going to press the Windows key + E to open the File Browser
• Then, inside the location bar, paste the following c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application
• Now in msedge.exe, right click and select the section that says Rename, you can change it to Medge.exe or whatever you want.
• Restart the Edge app and check if the error is resolved.

5.- Create a new user profile

You can also try creating a new user profile to fix the error in Chrome or Edge.

For Chrome:

• Click on the current profile from the top right corner window, now tap on "+" > and tag or name it, click Done.

For Edge:

• You must click on the current profile> then, in the upper right corner window, you must press where it says Add Profile and click on Add to create a new profile, after that name or tag it.

6.- Reset the settings to default values

If none of the fixes listed above work to fix the error, here it is suggested that you try reset browser settings to default values.

Follow the steps given according to your browser:

For Google Chrome:

• Launch the Chrome browser and in the address bar type chrome://settings hit the key Enter.

• Now you must scroll to the bottom and press where it says Advanced Settings.
• At the end, you will see the option Restore settings to their original default values.
• Then you have to click on restore Chrome default settings to open the reset settings
• Finally, click the button Reset settings. This will reset the profile to the new installation state.

For Microsoft Edge

• In Windows 10, you will have the option to reset Edge through Configuration and to do so, follow the steps indicated.
• On the right corner click the Edge menu button on the three horizontal points. And from the drop-down menu, you need to click on Configuration.
• Now on the left side click on the option Reset Settings
• Then, in the next window, you must press the option Restore settings to their default values.
• Now, inside the confirmation dialog that appeared with the details of the components restored to their default state > make sure to press the button Resetting to complete the restore process.
• The bug is now believed to be resolved in both browsers.

Bonus Tip: Install Adblock

This is an additional recommendation that you can try in case none of the above solutions work for you. So if you have no other option, this method will probably help you fix the status_access_violation error in Chrome or Edge.

Here it is suggested to install the Adblock extension in your browser as this blocks the developer's website ad which may include incorrect codes and cause the error.
