Outdated Server Error

When trying to join a server Minecraft, some players see the error Server out of date. This issue prevents players from joining the server while displaying a message on the screen saying that the connection has failed. This error usually appears on PC versions of the game, Android o iOS.

What is the cause of the server out of date error in Minecraft?

Before we jump straight into the methods, you should first know the causes of this error. Here is a short list of culprits that are responsible for the appearance of the outdated server error:

  • Incompatible version of Minecraft: if the server version is different from the version of Minecraft you are trying to launch, you will get an Outdated Server error. To fix this issue, you need to change the version you are launching the game on or ask the server owner to change the version to the latest one.
  • You (or your friends) are part of the Beta Program: If you are a Beta Expert, you will not be able to join a server with non-Beta Expert players. To fix this issue, you must exit the Beta program from Xbox Insider Hub.
  • An important update is missing from the game installation- This error occurs if you are missing the latest Minecraft update on your mobile device. This could be fixed by going to your app store specifically for your mobile device and updating Minecraft with the most recent update.
  • Realm version is not updated: If you only have this problem when trying to join a server Minecraft Realms, it is likely that you do not have the correct version installed. In this case, you should be able to fix the problem by replacing your current realm version with the one downloaded from the server.
  • The server version is outdated: If you are only experiencing this issue with some servers while others are working fine, the problem may be completely out of your control. If the version of the server you are trying to join is severely outdated, the only viable solution is to ask the server administrator to update it.

Change Minecraft version through the launcher

In most cases where this error is reported, the problem is occurring because the launcher is using a different version of Minecraft than the server you are trying to connect to.

The launcher defaults to using the latest version of Minecraft, but some servers fail to update to the new version immediately, and that is what causes the outdated server error.

To fix this, you need to change the launcher version your profile uses to the version the server uses.

If you don't know how to do this, please see below for exact instructions on how to change the version your launcher is using:

  • First, open the Minecraft launcher and click on Facilities.

Outdated Server Error

  • Now click on New installation and then click Version, Following this you need to select the version that the server you are trying to join is using.

  • After that, click on Create, then launch the game to see if you still encounter the Server Out of Date error.
  • If the problem is still not resolved, feel free to try the next solution described in the next section.

Update the Minecraft app (Android or iOS)

Just like the previous method, this error occurs on Android or iOS for the same reason as on the PC version of the game. If the version of Minecraft is not the same as the server you are trying to join, the message Server Out of Date will appear on your screen.

To fix this issue, you need to update your Minecraft app from Google Play or App Store, depending on the device you are using.

Here are the steps to do it:

Ask the server owner to update to the latest version

Minecraft is not available for players who are not on the same version as the server. So if you followed all of the guides above and none of them work for you, chances are the problem is completely out of your control.

If none of the above methods have helped you, the last thing you should do is ask the server owner to update the server to the latest versionYou can do this by updating the server's .jar file.

After the server owner successfully updates the version to the latest one, launch Minecraft to see if the outdated server error still appears. I hope this content is very useful to you, thank you for your visit and for reading us. We will meet again in a new guide. Until next time.
