According to reports, some users of Android e iOS come the Error: Disallowed_Useragent every time they try to open, log in, or enter certain apps that they have legitimately downloaded from the App Store or Play Store. This error usually appears when the end user tries to use some form of authentication Google.

Why do I get the error: disallowed_useragent?
This error appears if you are trying to use an application that cannot make a valid login request to Google.
In the vast majority of cases, the Error: disallowed_useragent This occurs because the Android or iOS app makes a login request that Google rejects. The most common reason for this rejection is an unauthorized browser agent (the app uses an outdated browser agent that Google no longer accepts).
How to fix diasllowed_useragent error?
Unfortunately for those hoping for a medicine, this is most likely an issue beyond your control. More than likely, this is an issue that the app developer will have to resolve themselves.
Fortunately, there are some mitigation steps you can try if you get stuck with the disallowed_useragent error:
- Update the app to the latest available version: Please note that the developer may have already updated the app to meet Google's requirements. If that is the case, updating the Android or iOS app to the latest version should fix the disallowed_useragent as Google would not have a reason to refuse the connection due to an outdated browser agent.
- Please report this issue to the app developer: If the app in question already has the latest version available, the only option available in your case is to contact the app developer and inform them of the issue in question.
Now that you know the mitigation strategies available to you if you find yourself in this particular scenario, let’s go over each one in detail.
1. Update the app to the latest version available.
Before you give up and conclude that the problem is out of your control, start by assuming that the developer has already adapted the app to comply with Google's latest guidelines.
So before you contact the developer, start this troubleshooting guide by making sure that the app that triggers the Error: disallowed_useragent is updated to the latest available version.
Of course, the instructions for doing this will be different depending on whether you're using Android or iOS, but we'll walk you through both scenarios.
Simply go to the subguide (which we will describe below) that applies to your mobile operating system:
1.1. Update the problematic app on Android
Android automatically updates apps, but the timeline in which these actions will take place depends on whether you have mobile data or Wi-Fi or whether you have a habit of keeping your phone in battery saver mode or not.
If there is a pending update for the problematic app that is displaying the error disallowed_useragent, you can install the update manually by visiting the menu Manage apps and device.
For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, you can follow the steps below:
Nota: The instructions that we are going to show you below will be the same regardless of whether you are using a phone or tablet device. Android.
- From the home screen of your Android device, you will open the application Google Play Store.
- Once you are inside the application Play Store, you must tap on your profile icon (top right corner).
- In the context menu that just appeared, make sure to tap the option that says Manage apps and device.
- Once you are inside the dedicated menu Manage apps and devices, you must touch the tab Manage, then select the filter Updates available and look for the application that is giving you problems.
- If the problematic app has a pending update waiting to be installed, press the button Update and wait for the operation to complete.
- Once the update installation is complete, you need to open the app again and see if the problem is now fixed.
1.2. Update the problematic app on iOS
Apple is much stricter than Android when it comes to “encouraging” you to update your apps with the latest available updates. But ultimately, it’s up to you whether you want to have auto-update enabled or not.
If auto-update of the app is disabled on your iOS device and the problematic app that is triggering the error disallowed_useragent has a pending update, you can follow the instructions to the letter to install it:
Nota: These instructions are identical and work for iPhone, iPad and iPod.
- From the home screen of your iOS device, tap the icon App Store.
- Next, you need to press your icon. apple profile at the top of the screen to open the settings menu. App Store.
- Within the context menu that just opened, go ahead and scroll down to the section Updates available.
- Once you are there, you need to click on the button Update associated with the application that triggers the error.
- After the update has been successfully installed, open the app again and see if the problem is now fixed.
2. Contact the app developer.
If updating the app helped you fix the problem, you're likely stuck with the message Error: disallowed_useragent due to the fact that the OAuth authorization request to Google is classified as a built-in user agent which is currently deprecated.
Since it's clear that the app you're trying to use is making a login request that Google no longer accepts, the solution is clear: either the app needs to be updated to Google's requirements, or the app needs to be moved to an alternative authentication method (such as GTMAppAUth).
However, none of these solutions will be within your reach if you are a regular user. All you can do is report this problem to the app developer using official channels.
If you encounter this error with an app developed by a small indie team, your only option to contact them is likely through the developer's official email available within the store listing.
