Fix Error Code 52131 On Nintendo

Some Nintendo players report that they always end up seeing the error code 52131 when trying to connect to the Internet from the home network. This problem is reported to occur on both the Nintendo WII U and the newer model of Nintendo Switch.

After analyzing several user reports, it turns out that there are several different reasons why this problem can occur and they are all network-related. Here is a list of possible culprits that could be causing this error code:

• TCP or IP inconsistency: A generic TCP or IP issue related to the temporary data allocated to your router could be responsible for your inability to connect your Nintendo console to the Internet. In this case, you should begin your troubleshooting guide by restarting or resetting your router.
• Wireless interference: It turns out that some sort of network interference may also be responsible for this particular issue when trying to connect your Nintendo console to the internet. Several users facing the same problem have reported that they were able to fix the problem by changing their router's default communication channel to 1 or 11.
• The router is positioned incorrectly: In certain circumstances, this error can be expected to occur due to a problematic router placement that facilitates a weak signal or some kind of interference caused by other electronic components. In this case, there are a number of adjustments you can make to the placement of your router and the wireless devices you use to ensure that your wireless signal is not affected by another signal.
• Incorrect DNS range: According to some affected users, an incorrect DNS range can also be the underlying cause of this particular issue. Some users who encountered a similar situation have fixed the issue by migrating their DNS to the range provided by Google.

Methods to fix error 52131 on Nintendo

Now that you are aware of all the possible culprits that could be causing this error code, here is a list of methods that should allow you to resolve error code 52131:

Method 1: Restart your router

Since this issue may be related to a generic TCP or IP issue related to temporary data allocated by your router, you should begin this troubleshooting guide by restarting your router and seeing if this 'quick fix' resolves error 52131.

If this scenario is applicable, you have 2 different ways to fix this problem:

• Restart your router- This operation will simply refresh your current IP and TCP data that your router is using (without making any persistent changes that may affect your network interaction). But if the problem is not related to the cached TCP and IP data, this method will not help you much.
• Resetting your router: If the reset procedure ends up being ineffective in your case, resetting the currently saved router settings will revert the device to factory state (in addition to clearing cached data). But keep in mind that if your ISP is using PPPoE, this operation will also reset the currently saved credentials.

A. Restart your router

You should start with this procedure as you do not risk affecting your immediate Internet access. It starts with a simple router reset to clear the data from the router. Protocol Internet and the data of the Transmission Control Protocol currently saved.

To perform a reset on your network device, identify the power button/switch on your router (usually located on the back of the device) and press it once to cut the power. After doing this, go ahead and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and wait 1 full minute or more.

NOTE: : It's important to understand what this operation will affect your home router's current settings. First, you'll be resetting your router to its factory defaults, which means any port forwarding, blocked items, and any other custom settings.

Also, if your ISP is using PPPoE, a router reset will mean that your network device will “will forget» the currently saved credentials. Once you have completed the reset procedure, you will need to recreate the PPPoE connection from scratch.

Once you understand the consequences of this operation, you can initiate a router reset by looking for the reset button (usually located on the back of your router). Once you locate it, press and hold it until you see all the front LEDs flashing at the same time.

After restarting your router, re-establish your Internet connection by re-entering the PPPoE credentials provided by your ISP (if necessary) and see if you can now connect your Nintendo console to the Internet.

If you still have the same  error 52131, please proceed to the next potential solution below.

Method 2: Change your router's channel to 1 or 11

Since the most common reason this error can occur is some sort of wireless interference, you should move forward by changing your router's channel to a range that is considered safe from interference. Generally, Channels 1 and 11 are considered safe since they generally do not overlap with other channels.

Some users who saw the same error 52131 reported that the issue was finally resolved after changing the default router channel and restarting the home network.

If you are looking for specific instructions on how to do this, please follow the instructions below:

• Make sure your PC is connected to your home network (or the network your Nintendo console is currently connected to).
• Open a Web navigator and type your router's IP address in the address bar and press Get in. Normally, your router's address is 192.168.0.1 o 192.168.1.1.

Note: If the above two addresses do not allow you to access your router, you will need to Find out your router's IP address.

• On the login page, enter your credentials to log in. If you have not changed the default login, the default username and password should be 'admin' o '1234'.

Note: If the default credentials don't work, look for the correct credentials on the bottom of your router or search online for your router's specific login credentials.

• Once you have successfully logged into your router settings, look for the menu Advanced.
• Inside the menu Advanced, you must look for the Wireless Settings and change the current Channel settings Automatic a 1 u 11 before saving the changes.

Note: Please note that if you are using a dual band router, you need to set the channels for 2,4GHz and 5GHz.

• Once you have successfully saved your settings, restart your router before attempting to connect your Nintendo console to the Internet once again.
• In case trying to connect to the Internet results in the same error 52131, please continue with the next potential solution below.

Method 3: Make sure your router is positioned correctly

If you've made sure that you're using a non-interoperable channel for your router, the next thing you need to do is make sure that your router is properly located in your home.

Make sure your router is away from walls and floors and located in a central location. Additionally, it is good practice to keep it away from metal objects, such as metal filing cabinets, which are known to cause interference.

Another possible cause of error 52131 is noise from wireless devices, phones, and wireless electronics such as cordless keyboards, headsets, or cell phones. Devices that use a 2,4 Ghz frequency are especially likely to cause interference with home routers.

Note : Older microwave models may also cause wireless interference if placed close to the router.

In general, it is a good practice to avoid electronic devices that use the 2.4 GHz frequency and instead opt for devices that use the 5.8GHz and 900 MHz frequencies.

If you've already made sure your router is positioned correctly and you're still seeing the same error when connecting your Nintendo console to your home network, move on to the next potential solution below.

Method 4: Switch to Google DNS (Nintendo Switch ONLY)

Some players who were experiencing this issue on Nintendo Switch have reported that the error code was resolved and they were able to connect to the Internet without any issues after changing the default DNS range to the equivalent one provided by Google.

In case of error 52130 is caused by a DNS-related network inconsistency, the instructions below should allow you to rectify the problem and connect to the Internet without problems.

Follow the instructions below to change the default DNS range to the Google equivalent on your Nintendo Switch console:

• In the window of Home from your Nintendo Switch console, choose System settings (gear icon).

• Inside the menu Configuration of the  work, select the tab Internet in the left menu, then go to the right menu and choose Internet settings in the list of available options.
• After doing this, your Switch console will begin generating a list of all available Wi-Fi connections. Once the list is complete, select your Wi-Fi connection from the list (in Registered networks).
• Go ahead and select the correct settings, then choose Change settings and scroll down to the menu DNS configuration.
• In the DNS Settings menu, set the menu to say Manual so that I can edit the DNS
• En Primary DNS, press and hold the button B to remove the current value, then add 8.8.8.8 and press A To save the settings.
• After this, in Secondary DNS, press and hold the button B to remove the Secondary DNS existing. Next, delete the existing value as you did before and add 8.8.4.4 and press A To save the changes.
• Try reconnecting and see if the connection is successful this time.
