We have investigated this issue thoroughly and realized that this problem could be caused by several different scenarios (depending on the platform you are using when trying to play the game).

Here is a list of possible culprits that you should look out for when you encounter the Elden Ring not installing error on console and PC:

• Setup is busy installing Data0.bdt: If you are trying to install the game on PC and the installation always seems to end up installing 'Game/Data0.bdt', do not rush to try the installation again. Data0.bdt is by far the largest file in the game installation, so if you are using a traditional hard drive, you can expect the installation to take several minutes (over 10 minutes in some cases) for this file to be copied.
• The physical copy of Day 1 is partially incompatible with Windows 11. It turns out that if you are trying to install the game from a physical copy on PC and you are using Windows 11, you may have an incompatibility issue that only affects Windows 11 users. In this case, you should be able to avoid the problem by forcing the installer to open in incompatibility mode with Windows 8 or Windows 7.
• Enable limited RAM game installation: If you are using a PC with limited RAM (8GB or less) and you are installing the game from a physical copy, it is likely that all available resources will end up being allocated to the installation and the computer will end up freezing. • Temporary file error: It turns out that many of the issues reported on consoles (Playstation y Xbox) have their roots in some Temporary files incorrectly passed which ends up affecting the game installation. This only seems to affect people with pre-orders and can be fixed by performing a power cycle procedure on your console.
• Corrupted game file: If you experience this issue on PC after the initial S team installation was interrupted, do not try to reinstall the game from the games list as it will likely get stuck at the same point. Instead, implement an integrity check through the S team settings. Steam.

It may appear that your installer froze while copying Data0.bdt, so sit back and let it install.

Nota: This scenario is much more likely if you are using a traditional HDD instead of the SSD newer. Read/write speeds on a hard drive are much slower, so the installer will take much longer to install big data files.

Allow at least 20 minutes and see if the installation continues. If it still shows that it is installing Data0.bdt after more than 20 minutes, or if you are experiencing this issue on a console, move on to the next potential solution below.

2. You must force the installer to work in compatibility mode (if applicable)

In case you're experiencing this issue on a Windows 11 PC while trying to install Elden Ring from a physical copy, it's most likely that you're dealing with a compatibility issue that many other players are currently experiencing.

It turns out that physical day 1 copies of Elden Ring are not fully compatible with Windows 11. There's a strange glitch that prevents the installation from completing on certain versions of Windows 11 (particularly N versions).

Nota: This does not refer to digital purchases, only physical ones.

But according to many of the affected users, you should be able to avoid the issue entirely by customizing the game's launch options to run in compatibility mode on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

If you're using Windows 11 and this scenario sounds like it might be applicable, follow the instructions below for step-by-step instructions on how to force the Elden Ring installer to work on Windows 11:

• First things first, start by inserting the Elden Ring physical disc into your PC and wait for your drive to identify it.
• Once the Elden Ring DVD appears within File Explorer, close the autorun window if it appears. Instead, open File Explorer, right-click the Elden Ring disc, and choose Open in a new window.

• Then, once you are inside the game folder, look for the file setup.exe and right click on it.
• From the context that just appeared, click on Properties

• Once you are inside the screen Properties, go to the Compatibility tab from the menu at the top, then check the box under Mode compatibility and select Windows 7 from the associated context menu.

• After these changes have been made, double-click on setup.exe once again and see if the installation is successful this time.

3. Use RAM limiter (if applicable)

If you are using a PC with limited available RAM (8 GB or less), there is a high chance that the installation will get stuck because all the available resources are concentrated for the installation and the operating system ends up freezing.

Fortunately, FromSoftware has overcome this and included a workaround that will allow you to prevent all available system resources from being allocated to the Elden Ring installation.

If this scenario is applicable and you are using a low-end PC, check the RAM limiter on the initial Elden Ring installation screen. This option will ensure that the installation does not end up freezing your PC.

If this method was not applicable or you are experiencing the installation issue on a different platform (or when installing a digital copy of Elden Ring), please move on to the next method below.

4. Disable, uninstall or whitelist Elden Ring files in AV (if applicable)

It turns out that there are certain AVs that are known to interfere with the installation of Elden Ring files on the PC. BitDefender is often mentioned as an AV that is causing this type of problem on Windows 11.

The widely accepted explanation is that some AV suites are apparently messing with Elden Ring's setup.exe file which ends up affecting the game's installation.

ImportantThis particular issue is reported to occur mostly with third-party antivirus suites. We have not been able to find any user reports confirming this issue for Windows Security.

If you find yourself in this scenario and your antivirus is to blame, there are 3 main ways you can use to fix the problem:

1. Disable real-time protection of your AV
2. Set a whitelist rule for third-party antivirus
3. Uninstall the interfering third-party antivirus package.

Whitelist the Destiny executable within your Antivirus

The ideal way to deal with genuine third-party AV interference is to access your antivirus settings and set an exception rule that excludes the Elden Ring main setup executable from any security scans.

Of course, the exact instructions for setting up a whitelist rule will be different for each antivirus tool. You can search online for specific instructions on how to do this according to the AV you are using.

However, if you are using BitDefender (the AV most people point the finger at), follow the instructions below to set a whitelist rule for Elden Ring setup.exe:

• Open BitDefender or bring it up in case the tool is already running in the background.
• Then click on the icon Protection from the vertical menu on the left.

• Once you are inside the menu Protection dedicated, click on the hyperlink Open in Antivirus.

• Within the BitDefender Antivirus tab, click on the menu Settings, then click the Manage Exceptions hyperlink.

• Next, make sure Antivirus is selected as the parent directory, then click Add an exception.

• Click on the browse icon, search the disk location where setup.exe is located, select the entire folder and click OK.

• Then click Save to make the exception rule permanent in BitDefender.
• Try installing Elden Ring once again and see if the issue is now resolved.

Disable real-time protection of your AV

Perhaps the quickest solution (if your AV is at fault) is to simply disable real-time protection. This isn't the ideal resolution, but it's certainly the quickest solution if your AV is the main cause of Elden Ring's installation issues.

Nota: The instructions for disabling your AV antivirus's real-time protection will of course differ from tool to tool, but in the vast majority of cases, you can disable this feature by right-clicking on the AV icon and looking for an option to disable real-time connection.

It is important to remember that with other AV suites such as BitDefender, you will need to access the Advanced Settings menu in order to disable the real-time antivirus shield.

After you have successfully made sure that real-time protection is disabled in your third-party antivirus, run the Elden Ring installation executable once again and see if the problem is now fixed.

Uninstall the interfering third-party antivirus package

If the first two sub-guides are not effective for you, the only course of action left at your disposal is to completely uninstall the third-party antivirus that is interfering through the screen. Programs and characteristics.

Follow the instructions below to uninstall the antivirus that you suspect might be interfering with the installation of Elden Ring:

Nota: The instructions should be universal. They will work on all recent versions of Windows.

If none of the above methods have proven effective in your case and you are experiencing this issue on a console (Xbox or PlayStation) or PC, the next step should be to investigate whether the temporary file cache is causing this problem.

Nota: The instructions for resetting your console will differ from platform to platform, so we've created a series of sub-guides that will walk you through the exact steps. If you're experiencing this issue on PC, your job is made easier as you just need to restart.

From the sub-guides below, choose one of the guides below to reset your PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X console:

Restart your pc

If you experience this issue while trying to install Elden Ring on PC, all you need to do is perform a simple reboot and retry the installation once the next startup is complete.

To do this, click the power button, then select Restart of the available energy options.

Once the next reboot is complete, see if the installation now completed without any issues.

Xbox One / Xbox Series S Power Cycle

Power cycling your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S console is quite different than on PlayStation because you'll need to hold down a physical button for 10 seconds or more to trigger a power cycling procedure.

Here's how to do this:

• Start by making sure your console is fully powered on.
• Press and hold the power button (on your console, not your controller)  for about 10 seconds or until you notice the front LED starts flashing intermittently.

• Wait more than a minute and give your console There enough to drain it before attempting to reboot your console in a conventional manner.
• While you wait, be sure to physically unplug the power cord from the power cable.
• Next, reboot your console again and see if you detect the longer boot animation sequence.

Nota: If you can see the longer animation format, it is proof that the power on/off procedure was successful.

Once your console restarts, try installing Elden Ring once more and see if the issue is now resolved.

Playstation 4 power cycle

If you're still on PlayStation 4, power cycling your system gives the power capacitors enough time to clear cached data.

Here's how to do this:

• Make sure your Playstation 4 system is turned on and not running any games.
• hold the button power on your console.

• Release the power button when you hear the console fans turn off.
• After you can no longer hear any sound coming from your console, go ahead and physically unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
• Wait about a minute before allowing the power capacitors to drain completely.
• Finally, reconnect your console to the power supply and turn it on in the conventional manner.
• After your console restarts, try reinstalling the game once again and see if the issue is now resolved.

Playstation 5 power cycle

A power cycle procedure on your Playstation 5 console is simple thanks to the overhaul of the user interface. In this case, what you need to do is hold down the power button until the console turns off completely.

Important: As an added precaution, unplug the power cord to allow the power capacitors to drain themselves.

• Make sure your console is on and in sleep mode.

6. Verify Elden Ring files on Steam (PC only)

If you encounter this issue on Steam after a failed installation, an integrity check will likely fix it.

Some players reported that this error could be caused by some corrupt files located inside the game installation folder. Fortunately, there are a few ways to check for them, and if the files are corrupted or missing, they will be recovered or replaced with healthy equivalents. This method has helped many players who encountered this problem.

Here are the steps to verify the integrity of Elden Ring game files:

• Open the application Steam and go to the game library page.
• Find Elden Ring in the list of games on the left side, then right click on it and open the menu Properties
• After that, click Local files, in the section on the left side of the screen.

• Then click Verify the integrity of game files to start the verification and wait until it is completed.

Reinstall the game on PlayStation 4

If you are on a Playstation 4 system, you will need to uninstall the game from the menu Library and then redo the installation from the same location (but from a different tab). During this procedure, make sure that your console does not enter hibernation mode.

Here are the complete instructions for doing this:

• From the home screen on your PlayStation 4 system, swipe through your installed games and select Elden Ring.

Nota: It should appear even if the installation is incomplete.

• With the game selected, press the button Options on your controller, then select Delete in the context menu that just appeared.

Because Sony has revamped the Playstation 5's operating system, the instructions for uninstalling the game and reinstalling it will be quite different from those for Playstation 4.

Here is how to do it:

• From the home screen, use the left stick (or arrow keys) to select Elden Ring, then press the button Options in your controller.

• In the context menu that just appeared, select Remove, then confirm the choice and wait until the game is uninstalled.

• On the next screen, select the tab Games from the left menu and scroll down through your library until you find the installation of Elden Ring.
• Now, click on the menu button on your controller to bring up the context menu.
