Some users have faced connectivity issues when trying to use the client Steam on their systems. It turns out that for some users, the Steam client does not connect to the internet upon launch. How to fix connectivity issue on Steam?
La connectivity Internet access is essential for the Steam client to function properly. In some cases, the Steam client may become disconnected due to the Steam servers being disconnected. Steam face an interruption, in which case all you can do is simply wait.
However, when the problem is only limited to your system, there are a number of troubleshooting steps you can follow to reach a solution. In some rare cases, the problem in question may also originate due to your ISP.
In case your problem persists after trying the methods mentioned below, it is highly likely that your ISP is causing the problem and as such, you will need to contact them.
However, before we get started with the different methods, it is important to establish an understanding of the various possible causes of the connectivity issue on Steam. So, let us mention them to you right away.
- Steam Browser Cache: One of the first reasons why the issue in question may occur is due to the browser cache that comes built into the Steam client. In such a scenario, you will simply need to clear the browser cache.
- DNS server: In some scenarios, your Steam client may randomly disconnect due to the DNS servers it is using. If this happens, you can easily avoid the problem by using a third-party DNS server.
- Third-party application interference: Another reason why the problem may occur is when a third-party application on your system interferes with the Steam client, such as your antivirus program. In such a scenario, you will need to disable the third-party security program.
Now that we have reviewed the list of possible causes, let's start describing the different methods you can use to fix the problem.
Clear Steam Browser Cache
The first thing you should do when you encounter the issue in question is to clear your browser cache. As it turns out, the Steam client comes with its own built-in browser that can be used to browse the Steam store or view community profiles.
As such, the browser creates a local cache that stores some information about your usage. In some cases, when this cache gets corrupted or damaged, the issue in question may arise. If this case is applicable, you can resolve the problem by simply clearing the browser cache. Follow the instructions given below to do this:
- First, open the client Steam on your computer.
- Now, in the top left corner, click on the option Steam and, in the drop-down menu, choose the option Configuration.

- In the Settings window, on the left side, switch to the tab Web navigator.
- There, click on the button Delete web browser cache and keep clicking on Delete all cookies from the browser.

- Once you've done that, click the button Accept.
- Doing so will restart your Steam client. See if the issue persists.
Disable third-party antivirus
In some cases, the problem can also be caused by interference from a third-party application on your computer. This has become quite common over these years and usually the culprit behind such issues is the third-party antivirus program that you have installed on your system.
These programs, while monitoring your system for malware, interfere with other applications and can often cause them to not work properly.
If you have a third-party antivirus software installed on your system, I recommend that you disable the third-party security program altogether temporarily to see if doing so resolves the issue. In case you do, you can whitelist the application in your antivirus program so that it no longer causes any problems.
Change your DNS server
Finally, the domain name system or DNS server you are using on your computer can also cause the issue at hand at times. By default, it uses the DNS server provided by your ISP. However, if you are having any issues with the default DNS server, you can easily change it on your computer to resolve any issues.
As such, you can try using a third-party DNS server. Google or Cloudflare to see if that resolves the issue for you. Once you've changed your DNS server, it will run some commands at the symbol of the system which will ensure that the new DNS server is properly registered on your system and that the old cache is removed. To do this, you just need to make sure that you follow these instructions below:
- To start, right click on the network icon on your taskbar and choose the option Network and Internet Settings.

- In the settings window, click on the option Advanced network settings.

- After that, you need to click on the option More network adapter options.

- In the new window that appears, right-click on your network adapter and, in the drop-down menu, select Properties
- Then, in the Properties window, double-click the option Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

- Once you've done that, choose the option Use the following DNS server address and then provide one of the following addresses:
Google: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
Cloud: 1.1.1.1 1.0.0.1

- Then click the button Accept.
- Once this is done, open the symbol from the system by searching for it in the Start menu.

- In the command prompt window, type the following commands one by one and press Enter. Get in:
ipconfig / flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig/renew

- Once you've done that, all you have to do is go ahead and restart your Steam client.
- Finally, check if the problem persists.
