Cheat Engine It is one of the leading tools for the operating system Windows which is used by players to edit different game values according to their requirements to overcome different game restrictions (or just for fun). It scans the memory and uses its debugging function to perform its operation (i.e. cheating in games).
Being one of the best tools in its niche, it doesn't have one of the best user interfaces for a newbie and requires a certain level of experience to operate it. Therefore, we have compiled a guide to Beginners to make things easier for newbies and teach them how to use the cheat engine properly.
How to download Cheat Engine
Before you continue, please note that Cheat Engine can't edit all game values, especially most server-side or online games (which process user data on their side, not on the user's machine) these types of games cannot be edited with Cheat Engine.
Warning: Proceed at your own risk, as some games or platforms (such as Steam) may ban your account for trying unethical techniques to manipulate game modules and using Cheat Engine. The methods discussed here are for educational purposes only.
Although you can find many online resources to download Cheat Engine, it is always better to download the latest version of the tool (currently version 7.2) from the Cheat Engine Official Website.
Once you have downloaded Cheat Engine, double click on it to start it and follow the instructions to complete the process. Make sure to refuse may be made by each browser toolbar like Mcafee toolbar or any other kind of hardware.
Also, it will be a good idea install it on the system drive in its suggested default location. Once installed, start up el engine of Tricks (Click Yes if you do not receive a UAC prompt.) If prompted, skip any dialog boxes requested by the community server, etc.
1.- Knowledge of the user interface
At the top of the Cheat Engine window, you have the following five menus:
- Archive
- Edit
- Kitchen
- D3D
- To help
Below the menus, you have a shortcut toolbar, which has the following three icons:
- Process Explorer
- Open cheat tables
- Save current data
2.- Basic Cheat Engine Workflow
First, the user has to click on the Process Explorer (to open the processes running on the system) and display them three tabs to the user, namely:
- Applications
- Processes
- Windows
You can use any of the Process Explorer tabs to find out the game's process. Finding out the related process is a bit more complicated, as you can see in the image below:
As you can see in the image above, BlueStacks has many processes, and to find the related one, you may need to use the test and strike method (or check the community forums for the process found by other players). Once a process is selected, click Open and the following type of window may be displayed:
As you can see, we can roughly divide this window into 4 parts:
- Selected process
- Scan options
- Processes found (These processes will only be displayed after scanning the operations of the selected process.)
- Selected processes and editing of values (you can edit the values of the processes found in this section).
3.- Use Cheat Engine on BlueStacks [step by step]
Enough of the basic discussion, let's dive into the ocean of game modding. As a use case, we will discuss the process for the emulator Android BlueStacks and the same process can be used to edit the values in the other games (based on Windows or emulators).
To use Cheat Engine in BlueStacks games, you can use the Cheat Engine HD-Player process or scan the physical memory of the device to run its commands.
4.- Use the HD-Player process to edit the game values
You can use the Cheat Engine process tab to find the game value in BlueStacks and then edit it accordingly.
- Starts Cheat Engine and open the emulator BlueStacks .
- Now in Cheat Engine click on the icon Process Explorer and go to the tab Processes.
- Then select the process that ends in HD-Player.exe (for example, 00003294-HD-Player.exe) and click Open.
- Now, on BlueStacks, start the game(e.g. Subway Surfer) and collect some coins (for example, 3).
- Then, break the game and head to the window Cheat Engine
- Now, you have to make sure that enter the amount of coins collected in the box Price (for example, 3) and set the Scan type en exact value.
- After that, you must establish the Type of value en 4 bytes and click on the button First scan.
- To continue, within BlueStacks, collect some more coins(for example, the total number of coins is 14) and pause the game.
- Then, enter 14en Price and click on the button Next scan.
- The next step is to check if they are displayed few processes in the left panel, otherwise, repeat the above steps until few processes are displayed in the left panel.
- Then, You must double click on first proceedings y establishes el value en 8000.
- Now play and check if the amount of coins has increased.
- Otherwise, pause the game and in Cheat Engine, set the value of one of the other processes found to 8000.
- Please try again and check if the amount of coins has increased as per your requirements.
- On the contrary, repeat the same for others processes found (one by one) in Cheat Engine until the required process is found. Once found, you can increase the coins as per your requirements.
You can follow the same procedure to edit values of the Other game parameters (such as Points, etc.). The same technique can be used to edit the parameters of the game other games.
5.- Use the physical memory process to edit the game values
If the above method did not work, try the following method that we are going to describe below and that uses the Physical Memory process to find the game values (but this method can take a long time to scan and slow down your PC):
- Open the Configuration from the Cheat Engine application and in the left panel, go to the tab Options of the scrubber.
- Now select Use debugged VEH and open the tab Extras.
- then brand the option of «Read/Write Process Memory» and do click en Accept.
- The next thing you need to do is start the game in BlueStacks y collect some coins.
- After this, you have to follow the steps 5 to 14from the HD Player method (discussed above) and hopefully you will be able to edit the game value as per your requirements.
Note that in the physical memory process, the first analysis may take traditional to complete, but subsequent analyses may take less time to complete. If the enforcement or Cheat Engine system fails during the scanning process, then you can try the following steps:
- First, disable the option Read/Write Process Memory in the tab Extras (step 3) from Cheat Engine and go to the tab Scan settings.
- Then you have to enable MEM_Mapped in the scan settings and try the above method again.
- To get Options traditional Advanced To edit the game settings, you may need to root the Android version of BlueStacks and Install CE Server on BlueStacks (but that discussion is not explained within this article) or you can try Cheat Engine with another Android emulator.
- Now, since you have one Basic idea of how Cheat Engine works, it will be a good time to review the Cheat Engine Internal Tutorial in the Help menu.
Once you've completed the tutorial, you can try changing the values in another game (e.g. Plants Vs Zombies). For more advanced games, you can use values/processes tracked by other players (or import tables), shared on the community forums.
Also, it would be a good time to use the CE Community server to import the game's values, processes, or tables and improve your gaming skills. That's enough for the basic Cheat Engine guide, so keep enjoying the game and have fun!
