Setup and Use Guest Mode on Chromecast

Chromecast Guest Mode allows any of your visitors to watch solid movies on your big TV screen, without even being connected to your home WiFi community. Let's take a look at how to set up and use Guest Mode on Chromecast.

Guest mode on Chromecast

Originally, Google Chromecast required visitors to be connected to their home's WiFi network in order to stream movies from their laptop to their home's big-screen TV.

Now, Google has improved and secured Chromecast Guest Mode, allowing anyone in the same room to cast pictures and movies to your TV screen, without actually being connected to your WiFi community.

This way, your visitors can share their favorite movies with everyone present, using their phones and without having to connect to your home WiFi community.

Observe: Your visitor's mobile device must have an active cellular plan or be connected to the internet through another WiFi community in order to use visitor mode on your Chromecast device.

How Chromecast Guest Mode Works

When you enable Guest Mode on your Chromecast, it emits a special WiFi beacon. This WiFi beacon is then detected by the Cellular Guest Device whenever YouTube or any other Chromecast-enabled app is enjoying the Cellular Guest Device.

So, every time your visitors launch a Chromecast-enabled app on their mobile device, the WiFi signal emitted by your Chromecast is detected by the visitor's mobile device, who typically sees the solid icon on their mobile device.

By tapping the Solid icon, your visitors can choose a nearby device (your TV) to stream the video to.

Once your Chromecast detects a nearby device attempting to connect, it generates a 4-digit PIN and attempts to transmit this PIN to the nearby device using inaudible audio tones.
