How to Uninstall AVG on Windows, Mac and Android

You have probably decided that AVG is not the right antivirus for you but you cannot uninstall it. Don't worry anymore, as I will teach you how to uninstall AVG correctly using the Control Panel. Windows or, if necessary, an official uninstallation tool that allows you to remove AVG from your computer if the default uninstallation procedure fails.

The only precaution you should take is to replace AVG correctly. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves now: let's first think about AVG and see how to completely remove it from your computer.

How to uninstall AVG on Windows

To uninstall AVG the classic way:

1. «Click the Windows Start button» (the flag located in the lower left corner of the screen) and «enter the Control Panel» if you're using Windows 7 or earlier, or the Settings menu (the computer icon) if you're using Windows 10 or Windows 8.x.
2. In the window that opens, if you are using Windows 10 or Windows 8.x, «enter system», «select the Apps & features item» from the left sidebar and «Locate AVG related items» in the list of programs installed on your PC.
3. If you cannot find the menu with the list of applications installed on your computer, «search for uninstall in the search bar» from the Windows Configuration Panel and «select Add or Remove Programs» in the search results.

If you are still using a version of Windows equal to or older than 7

To access the list of programs installed on your computer you must:

1. «Open Control Panel» (as I explained above), after which you need to click on the Uninstall a program button and «search for AVG related items» in the list of programs installed on your computer.
2. If you cannot find the Uninstall a program item in the Control Panel, «search for the term uninstall» in the bar at the top right and «select the first search result».
3. The steps are pretty much the same on any version of Windows. Next, «select the AVG Protection icon» from the list of programs you have installed on your computer.
4. «Click the Uninstall button», which in Windows 10 and Windows 8.x is located directly next to the program icon, while in Windows 7 and earlier it is located at the top. In Windows 10 and Windows 8.x the button must be pressed twice in a row.
5. In the window that opens, «click the Yes button», then «select the Uninstall icon» and confirm your desire to uninstall AVG from your computer by pressing the Yes, uninstall button.
6. Now "wait a few minutes" to remove all AVG Protection files from your computer and «click Restart Now» to accept the restart of the computer (this is all you have to do to get results).
7. When the system reboots, «return to the list of installed applications» on your team, «select AVG» y «click the Uninstall button» to start the process of uninstalling the antivirus. If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 8.x, you need to click on the button "Uninstall" twice and not once.
8. In the window that opens, «click the Yes button», confirm that you want to remove AVG by pressing the Yes, uninstall button and wait a few minutes for the AVG uninstall process to complete. Then, «click Finish» to prompt the window and complete the AVG uninstallation process.

AVG Removal Utilities

If you have already tried to uninstall AVG as described above, but the uninstallation process was not completed due to strange error messages, try uninstalling the antivirus program from your computer using the official AVG uninstaller. To download the AVG removal tool:

1. Go to this web page y «click on AVG Remover». When the download is complete, «open the AVG_Remover.exe file» and in the window that opens, «click the Yes button first» and then click Continue.
2. Now "wait a few seconds" to detect the list of AVG products installed on your computer, "put a check mark next to their names" (for example, AVG Zen) and «press Delete» to continue with the tutorial.
3. Well, now all you have to do is wait patiently for the AVG uninstallation to complete. When the uninstallation is complete, it will ask you to restart your PC. Then, «Press the Restart icon and when Windows restarts, AVG should have been permanently removed from your computer.

Nota: I made the tutorial using AVG Internet Security, but the steps are more or less the same even with the free version of AVG. The removal utility is also the same for all variants of the antivirus.

Uninstall AVG from macOS

If you have installed AVG on your Mac but now you want to uninstall it, proceed as follows:

1. «Start the application by clicking on its icon» in the menu bar or the Start menu, «access the AVG Antivirus menu» in the upper left corner and «select Remove AVG Antivirus».
2. In the window that opens, «press the Uninstall button», “enter your MacOS user account password” (the one you normally use to log into the system) in the text field and «click OK first» and then click Exit to finish the AVG for Mac removal procedure.

Instead of AVG, I recommend you install the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free for Mac that does not have a real-time protection module and therefore must be used "manually" when you want to scan your system. I think it is more than enough on MacOS (unless you make special use of your computer).

Nota: I used a Mac running macOS 10.12.4 (Sierra) for the tutorial, but the steps are the same on other versions of Apple's operating system.

Uninstall AVG from Android

AVG also has a version for phones AndroidIf you have installed it on your smartphone or tablet and now want to remove it, go to the Android drawer (i.e. the screen with all the applications installed on your device):

1. «For a few seconds, «tap» with your finger on the AVG icon»,
2. «Drag it to the Trash icon» which should appear at the top of the phone,
3. «Respond OK» to the confirmation message to uninstall the application.

Alternatively

1. You «Go to the settings menu of your Android phone» (the icon in this case of the gear).
2. «Go to App» y «select AVG item» (which may simply be called Antivirus) from the screen that opens.
3. Already here alone, «Press the Uninstall icon» y «Confirm your operation by pressing OK».

If you use a Samsung terminal

You can also uninstall AVG:

1. «Opening the drawer» (the menu with all the applications installed on your device), tapping the Edit button in the top right corner,
2. «Selecting the (-) sign» which appears on the AVG icon (which may simply be called Antivirus) and «responding to Uninstall» to the warning that appears on the screen.

If it is impossible to uninstall AVG from Android by following one of the procedures I just explained, launch the AntiVirus application, go to Antivirus and uncheck the option Device administratorThis way, AVG will no longer be able to “control” your device and you will be able to get rid of the application easily with the tutorial given.

Nota: I personally did this tutorial with the free version of AVG on an Android phone. Anyway, the procedure is almost the same on almost all Android versions.
