- net stop cryptSvc
- net stop bits
- net stop msiserver
Nota: This set of commands has the ability to stop all relevant Windows Update services from running: BITS service, Cryptographic service, MSI Installer service, Windows Update service (main).
Once you manage to stop each of the relevant services, you need to run the following commands to delete and rename two vital WU folders (SoftwareDistribution y Catroot2):
- ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributionSoftwareDistribution.old
- ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
Nota: These two folders (SoftwareDistribution and Catroot) are the two main folders responsible for storing and maintaining Windows Update files. You can't really delete them in a conventional way, so the best way to make sure they don't have any corrupt files that can contribute to this error is to rename them to force your operating system to create new, healthy equivalents.
Following this, when you manage to rename the two folders, you have to run the following commands to re-enable the services you disabled earlier (in step 2):
- net start wuauserv
